 220 Punch Head Failure

A broken head on this punch was caused by the lack of a countersunk shank hole.  The punch was forced down onto a sharp edge during assembly, cutting into the shoulder radius.  All punches are manufactured with a shoulder radius.  This may not have happened using a soft retainer, however, it is a good practice to  countersink all shank holes.  This can also be caused by off center load, improper stripping or seating.
